Marvel Studios Releases Avengers: Doomsday Trailer and Film Release Date
Marvel Studios has had a slow decade in terms of releases and box office successes, but the studio is aiming to recapture lightning in a bottle with Avengers: Doomsday trailer.
Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in cinemas on Dec. 18, 2026.
As the movie’s title suggests, the trailer depicts the collapse of the Marvel cinematic multiverse, a la DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths. The movie brings back Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier from the 20th Century Studios X-Men franchise. The first official trailer also gives audience members glimpses of Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, though he isn’t given any dialogue.
Much of the trailer is narrated by Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as he assembles a new Avengers team in place of the one that was mostly killed off during Avengers: Endgame. This new team sees the return of Shuri (Letitia Wright) as Black Panther alongside M’Baku (Winston Duke) and Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía). Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackey) also returns as Captain America, along with the Thunderbolts and the Fantastic Four.
Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is also confirmed as returning, though seemingly not as Captain America. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) also returns as Ant-Man alongside his family in the trailer. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) similarly returns with the Time Variance Authority (TVA), along with several X-Men. These include Magneto (Ian McKellen), Gambit (Channing Tatum), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), and Cyclops (James Marsden). Other newcomers such as Xu Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) are also featured.
Not much of the story is revealed in the two minutes of footage beyond the looming threat of Doctor Doom and that Thor is highly terrified of him. To that end, it isn’t known why the multiverse is collapsing, or how this relates to the events of the Loki TV series and Deadpool & Wolverine. The only thing the trailer does tease is that, like DC’s iconic Crisis event, nothing will be the same again. Doomsday seemingly marks the beginning of the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it.
Avengers: Doomsday will debut in cinemas on Dec. 18, 2026. All previous Avengers films can be streamed on Disney+ with a subscription.
